How to install Portainer with Docker Compose v2

You install Portainer with Docker Compose by writing a single compose.yaml file and running two commands. Portainer CE 2.40 STS supports Docker Compose v2 natively, enables HTTPS on port 9443 out of the box, and manages Docker Engine, Swarm, Kubernetes and ACI from one panel. It runs on Ubuntu 24.04 or Debian 13.

NIST PQC: The Post-Quantum Cryptography Standards

In August 2024, NIST published its first finalized post-quantum cryptography standards: FIPS 203 (ML-KEM) for key exchange, FIPS 204 (ML-DSA) for digital signatures, and FIPS 205 (SLH-DSA) as a hash-based alternative. They replace RSA and ECDSA before a quantum computer can break them, and hybrid implementations are already live in Chrome and Cloudflare.

How to use DeepSeek Harness with a local model

DeepSeek Harness (dsh) is the open-source agent harness DeepSeek released in August 2026. It works with a local model if you declare an openai-completions provider in settings.yaml that points at llama-server, with a placeholder key and the real context size. With Qwen3.5-4B on CPU it left the tests green in 4 of 5 attempts, but slowly.

Docker Desktop 4.94 switches the logging driver to local: what it means and how to do it on your server

Docker Desktop 4.94, released on 5 October 2026, uses the local logging driver for new Linux containers: it rotates and compresses with no setup. In my test, 3 million lines took 454.5 MB with json-file and 15.5 MB with local. Docker Engine on Linux still defaults to json-file, so on a server you have to change it yourself.

How to fix pull access denied for minio/mc in a createbuckets init container

The pull access denied for minio/mc error appears because MinIO deleted that image from Docker Hub in September 2026, and it stops the whole compose stack even though only the bucket-creation container uses it. Swap it for pgsty/silo, the Chainguard image or aws-cli, or drop the service if your buckets already exist.

vLLM on an ARM CPU or llama.cpp, which serves a small model better without a GPU

On an arm64 CPU with no GPU, llama.cpp 0.5.0 served Qwen3-1.7B as a Q8_0 GGUF at 72.7 tokens/s per request and 236.9 tokens/s with 8 concurrent requests. vLLM 0.30, which only loads BF16 on Arm, reached 10.1 and 68.3 tokens/s and used 11.4 GiB of RAM against 7.0 GiB.

    FIPS 203, 204 and 205 explained: ML-KEM, ML-DSA and SLH-DSA tested with OpenSSL

FIPS 203 (ML-KEM) defines how to agree on a secret key, and FIPS 204 (ML-DSA) and FIPS 205 (SLH-DSA) how to sign, all three resistant to a quantum computer and final since August 2024. With OpenSSL 3.5.9 I measured their sizes: an ML-KEM-768 public key takes 1,184 bytes and an SLH-DSA-128s signature 7,856.

Jellyfin 12: fix Error loading configuration file encoding.xml

The Error loading configuration file: /config/config/encoding.xml message in Jellyfin 12.0 and 12.1 comes from the EncoderPreset xsi:nil line that 10.11 writes by default. The server starts, but transcoding falls back to defaults and QSV is gone. Jump to 12.2 before migrating, or change that line to auto.

How to generate speech with oMLX TTS models on your Mac

oMLX serves text-to-speech (TTS) models on an Apple Silicon Mac through the same API as OpenAI. With POST /v1/audio/speech you request audio in a preset voice, a voice described in plain language or a voice cloned from a few seconds of reference. On an M5 Max, Qwen3-TTS 1.7B generates each second of audio in 0.33 s.

How to upgrade Nextcloud to version 35 with Docker without losing data

To upgrade Nextcloud 34 to 35 in Docker, back up the database and the volume, switch the image to nextcloud:35 and let the container start run occ upgrade. You can only move one major version at a time. What breaks are apps with no release for 35, and going back to 34 means restoring the backup.

What changes in oMLX 0.7.2 and how to upgrade it on your Mac

oMLX 0.7.2, released on 21 October 2026, one day after 0.7.1, speeds up DeepSeek V4.1 on the oQ2e to oQ4e quants, turns on Lightning MTP in multi-Mac clusters, runs Qwen3.8-Flash-Next GGUFs on Splash and stops re-prefilling the whole conversation on every Claude Code turn. You upgrade it from the app, Homebrew or source.

PHP CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619: how to check your version and patch today

CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619 are two critical PHP flaws (CVSS 9.2) that allow unauthenticated remote code execution. They affect PHP 8.2, 8.3, 8.4 and 8.5 below 8.2.35, 8.3.36, 8.4.27 and 8.5.12, released on 21 October 2026. The only complete fix is to update and restart every PHP worker.

Ollama 0.40 runs MLX by default on Apple Silicon: what changes and how to check it

Since Ollama 0.40, released on 25 September 2026, models with a supported architecture run on MLX instead of llama.cpp on Apple Silicon Macs. Ollama picks the model variant at download time, and ollama ps shows in its RUNNER column which engine serves it. On Linux and Windows llama.cpp is still the default.
